Do

What am I to do with my life? 

What is anyone to do with his o her life? 

There is too much noise about the topic 

but very little silence and peace  

very little space to really figure out something 

I know I’ll never succeed 

at least not in the way my parents hoped I would 

I know I am mostly lost 

but are we all not lost? 

Are we all not worried about the future? 

Are we all not worried about who we are? 

Are we all not worried about being accepted 

and about what to do with our lives? 

Should I now believe their myths 

and pray for enlightenment? 

Should I praise their numbers 

and their labels and their beauty codes? 

Should I ask their institutions to fix my flaws? 

I’m not the only socially crippled 

ill-suited for conventional life 

I am not the only wandering 

meandering, living one day at a time 

I have found more 

outcasts beyond a doubt 

gorgeous disasters 

embracing who they really are 

What am I to do now? 

Live while I still can  

be certain of the fact  

that whatever I do with my life 

is exclusively up to me.
