Ocean
Once he was a king
ignorant of the ocean
what a surprise it was
to meet the edge
the end of land
the place where feet
can walk no more
No fight, no truce
only awe could come to mind
the highest ruler
was unable to command
unable to find
the words to express
how mesmerizing
this place was
The shore became his home
until he finally went mad
he built a ship to go and explore
the mysteries he thought disguised
He was obsessed
some say in love
out of control
out of himself
the king that ruled the world
He learned 'bout tides
he learned 'bout wind
he talked to sailors
looked to the sky
looked at the stars
he got the maps
ready he was
to delve into
the gorgeous realm
beyond the lands
But deep inside
he was afraid
it was so huge
so vast and strange
What is sea-monsters?
What if shipwreck?
What if the thirst
could not be quenched?
Some nights in secret
he wished he were
a little octopus
with his three hearts
to love with bravery
the ocean once
at least one time
sleep in her arms
He never left
the safety of land
remained stranded
in his dark mind
the lonely king
could not command
himself to leave
his turf of sand.
